Can a Venous Lake become bigger?
A Venous Lake can appear as a small flat mark on the lip or skin and over time, fill with blood become larger and form a protusion from the skin.
Mature Venous Lakes are generally stable in size, and they don’t usually exhibit significant growth over time. Once formed, they may persist without substantial changes in appearance.
Various factors can influence a Venous Lake
However, individual cases can vary. Factors such as sun exposure, trauma, alcohol intake or other underlying health conditions might influence the behaviour of a Venous Lake.
Venous Lake lesions can become unsightly and painful. They can affect daily life. Or special occasion decisions, especially when lipstick or concealer offers little or no effect in disguising them.
Many of our clients find them to be embarrassing, annoying and frustrating. In some cases try to pop the Venous Lake, to no avail. Additional trauma to the lesion will cause them to become bigger as more blood will be supplied to the lesion before healing.
In conclusion, whilst they are typically considered benign and harmless; it is crucial to monitor any changes in size, colour, or characteristics of a Venous Lake.
